Ned Gilbert

Dr Edward (Ned) Gilbert-Kawai is a Specialist Registrar in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. At the ISEH, his role is as the Senior Research Fellow for UCLs Centre for Altitude, Space and Extreme Environment (CASE) Medicine. This involved acting as the Research Leader on the recent 2013 Xtreme Everest 2 Research Expedition.

Ned's research interests focus on the microcirculation, and he is currently undertaking a PhD at UCL, looking into the physiological adaptations innate to high-altitude natives, which confer a performance and/or survival advantage at high altitude over lowland inhabitants.

Ned is also an honorary lecturer on the Extreme Environment Physiology BSc course at UCL.
