Dr Daniel Martin

Dan is anaesthetist and research fellow based at UCL/UCLH in London. He was one of the deputy research leaders for the Caudwell Xtreme-Everest expedition to Everest in 2007 and Cho Oyu 2006. He is a course tutor and lecturer for the Extreme Environment Physiology course at UCL and he is also a PhD student at the same university.

Dan's current research is focused on regional blood flow distribution and the peripheral mircocirculation at high altitude. Previously he has been involved in research exploring the effect of the ACE gene polymorhism on cardiovascular disease.

Dan was a member of the CASE Baruntse 2003 expedition; he summited Cho Oyu in 2006 then Mount Everest in May 2007 along with other members of the CASE team. He had the lowest level of oxygen ever reported in a human, from arterial blood, measured near the summit of Mount Everest.

Dan also provides acute medical care for major sporting events with TriMedics and has a particular interest in the treatment of exertional heatstroke in athletes.
